Nature on the island of St. Martin | Sint Maarten
The flora of St. Martin is different depending on the slope on which we are. One side is more arid and offers a vegetation composed of a multitude of cacti, succulent … and the other side a more luxuriant and colorful with hibiscus, frangipani, bougainvillea …
There are many animal species on the island of St. Martin | Sint Maarten, protected mostly by the nature reserve, founded in 1998.
The Nature Reserve preserves five main ecosystems on the island: coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds, ponds and dry coastal forest. It also manages the 14 ponds of the Conservatoire du littoral and its 11 km of natural land shores (reservenaturelle-saint-martin.com).
